Meet Maya aka NoSleepSusan!
I’m an artist from south Florida, I’ve always had a fantastically vivid imagination, and has always had a passion for expressing myself through bold colors and multiple mediums. Whether it’s, writing, drawing, painting, film or fashion design, I’m always magnetically drawn to all things bizarre and fun.

Do you consider yourself to be alternative?
Yes, I’ve always felt a sense of belonging while simultaneously not fitting in.
How do you navigate life as an alternative person of color?
I always stay true what feels good for me and excites me. I feel like as long as I’m being true to myself I’ll attract people that relate and accept me for who I am. And it’s the best feeling in the world when you connect with others who make you feel seen and loved for being your true, weird, quirky self.
Who are 6ix and Colly?
6ix is the angelic manifestation of Susan’s confidence, optimism, and self-improvement. Colly Wobble is the demonic manifestation of Susan’s low self esteem, insecurities, and destructive self talk.
How long have you been an artist? Is art something you have always wanted to pursue?
I’ve been an artist since I was old enough to hold a crayon, I knew wanted to tell stories and make cartoons since I was 6.
What inspired you to create your web-series?
Issa Rae’s Misadventures of an Awkward Black girl was the first time I felt like I saw myself in media. I’ve related to other black characters like Moesha, Raven or Tia and Tamera but it felt like Issa’s stories and characters connected with me on a more personal level that I’ve never experienced before.
How long will the series last? Are we getting a season 2?
Unfortunately, there are currently no plans for another season of The Nosleep Show. This was a very fun personal project, mostly self funded and with a very small team. It took 2.5yrs to complete when I foolishly thought it would take only 6months. However, I will continue to make animations and I’m sure 6ix and Colly will make appearances.
